EGP Cameroon is a constituent group of Edinburgh Global Partnerships, a student-run charity that works with local NGOs on community-led projects with an emphasis on sustainable development. We are six students at the University of Edinburgh who will be going to the West Province of Cameroon this summer to build a trade and development centre in partnership with local NGOs CONGEH/HAA and the community of Bamendjin.
The centre will provide a place for farmers to store and sell their products every day and promote their activities, as part of the process of supporting small producers in rural areas to get more value from their farming work. It will also provide a site for social events regarding community issues such as HIV/AIDS and primary healthcare.
Our fundraising target is over £8000, and may get higher due to the current global financial problems. All that is raised or donated goes to the project -- to local labour and materials -- not to our travel expenses, living expenses, etc.
This blog will keep you up to date with our fundraising events and news related to the project. Please give generously, and /or come out and have a good time at our events.
